Why Owning a Franchise Makes Sense

Running your own small business on your own can be a very challenging experience.  Franchising allows people like yourself to take advantage of:

  • Proven business systems
  • Name recognition
  • Economies of scale in purchasing products
  • Making your services available directly to larger corporations as well as being involved in patient referral programs (learn more about our partnership with Healthscreen)
  • Regional, State/Provincial and National Marketing/Advertising
  • Ongoing Business Support
  • Learning and Growing with other Franchisees
  • Easier multiple-clinic expansion

At the same time you’ll actually gain more control over your own business (and your life), be able to offer your patients better services and care, achieve a desirable work-life balance and a higher-value for your business when you choose to leave.

Franchising can seem a little intimidating at first, so we recommend this video by Frannet and the Small Business Association as a good introduction:   You can also get more information from the Canadian Franchise Association, including their detailed description of franchising in a series of tutorials.

Start-Up Clinic Model

Are you working in someone else’s clinic but thinking of heading out on your own?  Just about to graduate from school and looking at whether you should start your own clinic or work with someone for a bit?  Are you ambitious, willing to work hard in exchange for a chance to earn a very comfortable living, be in charge of your own destiny and perfect a work-life balance earlier than your peers?  Then owning a Physiomed franchise may be just what you’re looking for.

Instead of having to figure it all out yourself, opening a Physiomed franchise provides you with all the tools, access to financing options, equipment discounts, marketing and staffing support that you would not have the time or experience to access on your own – all for a cost of entry about the same as opening your own clinic.  As in life there are no guarantees of success, but many of our Clinic Directors opened their own clinics within a few years of graduation and are earning substantially more than their fellow graduates are now.

And the work is exciting too, since instead of having a sole professional focus you’ll be running an inter-disciplinary clinic where you can address your patient’s wholehealth needs from assessment through ongoing care programs.  Participate in professional rounds with like-minded professionals.  And through our system be in a position to open multiple clinics years ahead of when you’d be ready without having Physiomed supporting you.

If you’re interested in more information contact us  or check out our Events Page for information on the next Out on Your Own Event.

Physiomed also has two unique programs catering to Start-Up Clinic candidates – our Turn-Key program and our Grow-And-Go program.

Our ‘ Turn-Key’ program is an ‘elite’ program for those who are interested in starting a clinic soon after school is complete or for those employed in another clinic who want to continue earning while their clinic is being set up.  If you have a year or two of clinic or healthcare or business experience and are comfortable stepping into the role of a Clinic Director with minimal training then this may be the program for you.     Successful applicants pay a franchise fee up-front.  Then while the clinic is being ‘built-out’ by our staff (with applicants making key decisions like location, staffing, etc.) the applicants will shadow a Physiomed Clinic Director for 6-8 weeks to learn the key elements of assessing and designing care protocols, running clinic operations, staffing, marketing, etc.  The work experience is designed to end when your clinic is ready to open.

The ‘Grow-And-Go’ program is designed specifically for students who are motivated and ambitious but who don’t have a lot of clinic experience.  Upon graduation students will spend 12 months gaining clinical experience inside a Physiomed clinic.  At the end of one year you will apply for a Physiomed Franchise and then work through a 6 month internship as a Clinic Director while your clinic is being located, built and readied.  At the end of the 6 month period you will be opening the doors to your own clinic as the newly minted Clinic Director.

Please contact us for more information about any of our programs.

Existing Clinic Model

Do you have an existing clinic but looking to improve it?  Have you been searching for the right ideas through reading articles, doing web research, attending conferences?  Have you hired a consultant only to find out that the energy left the building before the bills were paid?  Are you ambitious and entrepreneurial but willing to follow a proven system in order to obtain the results you know are possible?  Then perhaps a Physiomed franchise is what you’re looking for.

Physiomed looks carefully at existing clinics to evaluate whether or not we believe our system will work – if we don’t believe you stand to gain from working with us then we won’t accept you as a potential candidate(we just don’t want any unhappy franchisees).  We start by doing a Clinic Position Assessment – where your clinic is today and what do you really want to build?  We’ll evaluate your current economics (how you’re doing) against how our average clinics do.  And after you’ve officially applied to be a Franchisee you’ll meet with our head office team and clinic owners (current franchisees) so both sides can ensure there’s a fit.

What’s the first step – either attending one of our Initial Presentations  or contacting us for a face-to-face meeting with one of our Area Developers (each geographic area has a Physiomed representative who acts as an account manager, business coach and general manager all in one – they will not only guide you through the franchising process but will work with you on your Franchise on an ongoing basis, ensuring your ultimate success).  By the way – if you are not necessarily interested in running your own clinic, but still looking for a business opportunity in the growing, recession-proof, healthcare industry, consider becoming an Area Developer yourself.  Health care entrepreneurs should check out our Area Developer page for more information.

Selling is rarely your best option
….

If you have an existing clinic or group of clinics then you might have been approached by large, national companies looking to buy your clinic.  If you’re within a year or two of retirement then maybe you’ll want to consider this as an easy way to convert your sweat and tears into a retirement package.  However, if you’ve still got five to ten years left in you and you’d rather build a much bigger resale value for yourself, then consider franchising.  Some of the things you need to ask about when you’re approached about selling your business:

Are you getting a fair value for your business?  Have you had it appraised independently?

Is the company offering you cash or asking you to take some shares in exchange?  If shares then you may want to consider the likelihood of the company actually going public and whether or not you really want to be continued to be tied to a larger corporations stock value when markets fluctuate like they do?

Are they asking you to stick around and help?  If so, what incentives are they giving you?  If they need your help to grow the business, ask yourself if you wouldn’t be better getting 100% of the value that you grow by retaining ownership in the business rather than missing out on the value you will be creating?
